Ultime parole famose... - Famous last words... (Sedo HB QRP )

So' andato molte volte, in vari orari, anche in yard.

Famous last words...

One evening, I think it was the beginning of the week, we took one of the last trains to check out a train parked in the dark tunnel, it was clean. We hurried up and once above the manhole something was wrong, it was open.
Silence.
From below we could hear the sound of cans, voices and the smell of paint.
Two of us went down to check, and I remember we could see Gis painting the front of the train, and we could distinguish at least three other people. We went back up and decided what to do. Some of us wanted to paint anyways, others didn't want to. We had the brilliant idea of leaving an empty Ceres bottle with a rose in it.
We ended up doing nothing. We waited.
That night TRV, NSA, ZTK, and PAC crews bombed the whole train from one end to the other.

After they had gone we went down into the tunnel, but a guy in uniform yelled at us and we had to get the hell out of there. I don't think we would've found any space to paint though. A nice insult to the subway company, but for us it was just a matter of timing. That night in particular, I got really close to painting on the B-line.
We decided to go back the following week, but things went differently. We spent countless minutes hiding, with cops looking for us with flashlights and guns drawn. They knew we were there, but were obviously waiting for somebody else.
I went often, at many different times, to the yard as well.
Basically I have never painted a subway train in rome. It's clear that for a graffiti writer it is a vocation, and also a pity not to see your letters running for the most part in the underground of your city. For now I'm happy to have written my name repeatedly on the ring-road that surrounds the city.

Libertà di esprimersi - Freedom to Express Oneself (Des NSA)

Wholecar nero Ver Des NSA. Linea B, 2005.

DEStroy No Stop. Linea B, 2005.

Wholecar Des Kare (r.i.p.) Ver NSA, linea B, 2005.

English:
Freedom to Express Oneself

What I would like to express with this short text is, in my own opinion, one of the main reasons that brings an individual to begin this fantastic journey of liberation called "Graffiti Writing", that is, the sentiment which gives birth to this artistic movement. As for every artistic phenomenon that one would like to fully understand, it is necessary to study the relationship that exists between society and the movement itself. I strongly believe that with the creation of mass society, which led to an oppressive and alienating individualization and depersonalization of man, a particular necessity has emerged: the desire to find a form of expression that goes beyond those allowed by society in order to reclaim one's indipendence from the "social machinery"; freedom from imposition; to affirm one's spirituality through the manifestation of the way in which the graffiti writer perceives the reality that surrounds him.

Ver Des NSA black wholecar. B-line, 2005.
Nowadays capitalistic society, through a series of rules and the illusion of freedom, forms and shapes individuals to make them submissive, meek and easily insertable into the machine of production and the working environment, whose only purpose is to increase the power of the State through the sacrifice of the individual, with the promise of a better quality of life, a kind of animalization.

DEStroy No Stop. B-line, 2005.

Animalization; many times have I heard that graffiti writers behave like dogs. They go around writing on walls, leaving their mark on the territory to affirm their supremacy, and dogs do the same. The graffiti writer, through this animalistic behaviour, does nothing but ridicule this "infernal machinery", creator of animal-humans; and through this extremization process he seeks freedom; so a human being begins marking his territory to deny the cause that made him an animal, namely society, and acts against it.

"Visual Terror".

Individuals suffocated by mass society search for new forms of freedom of expression that violate the State's laws, rules, and Social Norms. The graffiti writer is an outlaw and an outcast, not because he doesn't want to fit into society, but because he is aware of the social norms that define society itself, which he doesn't want to be bound to by choice. So he rids himself of these rules and searches for a new form of social status through the affirmation of his own individuality, without following the paths provided by Society, and searching for his own personal one. As a result of this we have a radical opposition to the will to control of which the State is the leading figure.

Des NSA, Anagnina tunnel. A-line, 2001.

The message one wants to communicate is one of freedom, but the State is an entity, a multitude of men, structured like an upside-down tree, where the ones at the top can't see the ones at the bottom because it is too stratified and vice versa, so that one can not understand the discomfort of certain urban realities that determine these consequences, and what the State or the individual doesn't understand or is afraid of, it represses.

"Freedom to express yourself beyond all limits!!!"

And it is precisely for this reason that many people are not willing to stop when faced by the many obstacles that arise when an individual chooses to travel down this road, as it would mean abandoning life, liberty, and putting themselves in the hands of some kind of political or capitalist speculator, giving them the power to guide them along the "right path". The aim of "graffiti writing", in my opinion, is to free oneself from a regime of oppression, distress, anxiety and fear created by society itself.

Des Kare (r.i.p.) Ver NSA wholecar. B-line, 2005.

Des NSA. B-line, 2000.

A fear that refuses to exist because it does not exist in reality, there is no reason to be afraid of it. It is unreal, fictitious, and conditions us. It is generated by Society. So one tries to act against what is keeping him in chains, by recognizing the danger before him, trying to extricate oneself, and at certain times risking his life to bring forward his ideals. In short, individuals who are often not given the chance to be "free", seek to create their own niche in this impossible world, searching for a glimmer of hope that they find in the art of Graffiti.

An evening at the sea, completely drunk with plenty of silver and black paint…a couple trains got totally trashed with throwups…
I guess what alcohol did to the writers, the writers did to the trains, as the saying goes…”An eye for an eye”…
…as long as you’ve got one eye left to read what’s on the damn trains… ’cause as Mahatma Gandhi once said, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”.

1994 (Fume MSN)

It was so damn long ago. 1994. Hell man, where did the time go? Where did the days go when I was travelling around using the so-called interrail ticket for international damage? Well, there is no room for too many nostalgic thoughts here. Facts are the thing, what the kids of today need to know.
Me the man called Fume moved around in 1994. It was the time when still not all the playgrounds were overrun by idiotic toys without respect. It was the time when the steel-trains in Germany had their best days already behind them and Amsterdam was more or less history in the books of Graff. Of course the urge to kill trains stayed within the real true writers and they, me included, were searching for places with a bit more fun than grey weather and unnecessary investigation by the police that didn´t really make your day. Gasp from Amsterdam called me one day and said that some New Yorker didn´t have the time to go to a jam in Rimini, Italy. Well, as I said being tired of the same routine every day I jumped on the train and went with him to Rimini instead of that NYC guy. It was our luck that Rimini was the last stop, because otherwise we would have missed it, after getting drunk on the train and sleeping into the day afterwards. The sun of Italy welcomed us and we had a day with a wonderful sunny hangover. When we arrived at the venue, we kept on drinking, but, hey, we painted, too. Actually we did some funky mural with a lot of other toys like Delta, Kraze, Sander, Mode2, Sharp, Shoe and whoever was in between, if there was one. I was so damn overwhelmed by the good vibes, that I started tagging on girls, not knowing that even in Italy this wasn´t really something the boyfriends liked to see. Somehow I tagged some Roman girls. The good thing was, the roman boyfriends weren´t that mafia like, they even laughed at me the white boy from the north. Stand said it wasn´t really a smart thing to do and joined for a beer. Everybody was drinking, smoking weed and painting. Just call it a good time. I thought it was the best time of my life, but what did I know. I didn´t know that girls weren´t the only moving thing I would bomb during my stay in Italy.
Just like I said before, I had a train ticket in my pocket and nowhere to go, Stand asked me to come over to Rome to hit a few subways. Luckily I wasn´t too drunk to remember that invitation the other day and made my way to the capital of Italy aka the paradise of graff.
The evening I arrived the Romans asked me to jump on their scooters and grab my bag of paint before and go ahead. It was like a rush. The Romans showed me how much fun graffiti could be. Driving with the scooters up to the trains throwing the empty cans around was just one part. They were laughing at me already before when I was removing fingerprints from the cans and taking gloves and a mask with me. They even told me that I could get shot for wearing that mask. Well, I don´t have to mention I wasn´t wearing it that night. I don´t know how many pieces we did that first night, but it was great, driving around on scooters from one spot to another, not thinking of something like getting chased. We painted, that was it! We bombed the hell out of these wonderful cars.

The next day we were hanging in the station to catch flicks. It was great. The sun was shining and we were sweating. After taking flicks we went to have the best food in the world, prepared ourselves for more action and the show started again. Boy, did we have fun! Five days in a row we kept going every night. After that I went to Barcelona. Big mistake. After a few days in Spain I felt something like homesick, but I didn´t wanna go to Germany again, I felt that Rome was my new home, the place where I belonged. So, to make a long story short: I went back!

Another five days of glory came along. My new friends and me just bombed and had crazy fun. Actually I think I was even a bit welcome, because after I left, I left some influence on the size of roman pieces. Romans until that day painted pieces of the size of one window or maybe two. Me being used to empty the cans, always painted big, which meant at least four windows and maybe a door. Well, I have to admit, that I even did some one-window-pieces, because paint was becoming less and less in those days and we spent money on beers and dope food.

I went back several times after that first trip, but it never was the same again. Too many others heard about the new playground and soon it was a mess. Romans against disrespectful idiots from everywhere. I was glad to be in the position, that I made friends with the Roman guys and therefore my pieces ran for an unbelievably long time. One piece I did with Stand and Milk on the A-line even ran 10 years!

Luckily I got to know the second generation of hardcore train-bombers in Rome after the first ones kind of retired. ZTK was the ultimate bombing-klan! They held it down for most of the times even until now they can be seen up on the surfaces, even since hitting the subs became more of the Art of War.

Rome is the only place after NYC that has had more than 20 years of painted Subways running. It is an honour to be part of that history and it is even more of an honour to have met the real core of writers of Rome, the guys I am still friends with. They will always stay in my heart, because thanks to them I realized how beautiful it is to go bombing without having this itch in your neck that comes with the unrelaxed north European attitude! 1994.
Dipingemmo, tutto qua! Bombammo come pazzi quei bellissimi vagoni

Fume MSN, Wist ETC, Was MT2, Nol ETC. Linea lido, 1994.

The guards in the depots have always written over writers' pieces if they had the possibility, especially after crazy chases. They often crossed out tags in the pieces or wrote intimidating phrases towards writers with paint cans left there...

"Knowing you are inferior and fear bring you to deface deface deface..." by One provokes the response in Roman slang, "I'll kick your ass if I catch you." B-line, 2000.

"Work of art not completed because of escape", "purged", and "fat dude and skinny dude run really fast". Ver Des NSA, Lido line, 2002.

...but what is going on nowadays is just off the hook. As much as they hate graffiti writers, security guards have taken things so much at heart that they don't realize they have become graffiti writers themselves.
