Lieto Fine - Happy Ending (Joe TRV)

Sempre verso e nove e mezza me vedevo cor Chico e Sugo.

Che poi me telefonò pure. Va be'.
Lieto fine.

Happy Ending

Hey guys, I am Joe TRV and I love y'all.
Dear reader of this blog celebrating the 20 years of the Rome subway. It was an intense story crammed with pieces, end to ends, shootings, and many many emotions. The Heart novel (children's novel) is bollocks compared to this.
I don't wanna be outdone so I'll tell you a midnight fairy tale, actually the nine thirty in the evening-fairy tale.
Me and Sugo would meet around nine thirty at the line 36 bus stop at Via delle Isole Curzolane in the Tufello neighborhood.
I had a dream: to make the Tufello beautiful, cause apart from the Batucada pub and dope, it was a pretty dull and sleepy neighborhood.
Me and Sugo put in the work and made it into a nice super bombed sleepy-hood!
At nine thirty there was nobody around and all hell would break loose.
Cio ETC throwup, 1994.
Sugo and Joe TRV on a storefront, 1995.

The funny thing is that everybody knew I was CIO in Tufello, but for some fucking reason nobody ever said anything to me.
It was the same period as the CIO CIO CIO CIO CIO CIO end to ends on the A-line. Anyone got some flicks?
Dec ETC(China TRV), Win MT2(Stand TRV), and a throwup by Cio ETC(Joe TRV). A-line, 1994.

Nol posing under his piece dressed in the same colors as his fill-in, 1994.

Cio and Beg throwups by Joe and Sugo TRV on the still super clean B-line. Anno Domini 1994.
Nol(Joe TRV), Hest(Sugo ETC), Wist(Pane TRV), Wan MT2(Stand TRV) on a hot summer night. B-line, 1994.

And always around nine thirty, I'd meet up with Chico and Sugo.
We'd hit all the A-line stations from Termini on up all the way to Subaugusta. We'd bomb 'em hard.

Chico ZTK, 1995.
Sugo had this marker made from a blackboard eraser and an easter egg, it was totally raw.
One time in particular, we hammered away at this station, tryin' to be noticed by this dude we knew, ya know tryin' to be a little witty.
Afterwards I even got a call from him. Well anyways...
Happy ending.

Outsider (Cole Truceklan)

Provenienza: Roma, Epoca d'Oro.

Outsider

Origin: Rome, the Golden Era.
In 1988 I saw a piece by Crash Kid (r.i.p.) for the first time. I was a little kid, but already able to understand the importance of that thing, and its devastating power. The person speaking remembers a clean city. Except for politics and soccer, writings on the wall were something completely foreign and alien. That's why the attraction between me and that colourful writing was immediately fatal.

Growing up I had the luck both to live along the A-line subway, as well as in the same area where pivotal writers made their first moves. I saw the first pieces done by Giaime (r.i.p.), Stand "Emc" appearing literally overnight in the streets where by day I'd be roaming around with my pack of friends on our BMXs.
For us kids it was like being attracted to Kubrick's monolith.

Waz MT2 (Stand). A-line, 1993.

We were still unaware that here 'n there around the city there were other hotbeds. We were so unaware of the dimensions of the phenomenon, that at times we didn't even acknowledge the existence of other neighborhoods.

Then Rome exploded. You all know its history, the spark that set it off was the subway and all of its lines.
The spirit of emulation was stronger even than passion itself at times.
Tuff and his tag.

Tuff TRV, present on every street. 1996.

I am an outsider.
I always will be. This has often been a fortune: I have had the chance to paint with real passion, with many crews, and with very different people. They all have been important to me.

All of these crews and their members were fundamental and I had some incredible experiences with these guys, even though I repeat, I never had the will nor the diligence to dedicate my life 24/7 to graffiti writing, as many of them have done at times; SYLA, JON, SNOY, MENCIO, ZEIR, ASME, ZEMAR, FIVE/FONZIE, CHIZ, NEON.

I met and have respect for MT2, ETC, and TRV crews. What would graffiti be without Pane, Nico, and Joe? And not only in Rome. Graffiti-wise, I have had the fortune of living in the most interesting city in the world in the 90's.

I also cannot forget all the time spent with the guys from a different part of Rome, the times at Ponte delle Valli (railway line) to the days at the Stradone (hall of fame) in the Talenti neighborhood: Gufo, Noyz, and the TBF crew, Broder, the Savage Boys, and the genius slang they invented (sdiscovitz e sdrusdenaps) that a huge part of Rome spoke as if it had always been their dialect.

The Esquilino district, the Cyrrosis pub, the historical center, Kimo, Buzz, Gel and being 15 years old. Being shot at in Anagnina yard and the horses in the fields goin' nuts, the rockfights, the broken Vespa, crazy escapes by car. The fences, doors of buildings, trucks, and Walter's second-hand clothes at Via Sannio, always torn and stained.
Being invisible, being amidst the crowd, loose cannons in affirmative action.
Iems, Gast, Trota, Hiom, Dale, Yess, and the nights in the Nuovo Salario yard. I also wanted to publicly excuse myself for being the "terrorist of the yard" and for having driven like in cop movies at times.
